Introduction: Since soup powder is a value-added product rich in nutritional components, the present study aimed to use inexpensive Oman Sea fishes, including Talang Queenfish, Scomberoides commersonnianus (Lacepède, 1801), European Chub, Squalius cii (Richardson, 1857) and butterfish, Drepane punctata (Linnaeus, 1758) to produce soup powder, evaluate and compare their quality and introduce the best treatment for soup powder production to the food industry.
Materials and methods: Soup powder (three treatments) was produced and packaged using the same ingredients and through fresh fish meat's cooking, drying, and powdering stages. The treatments were stored in the environment, and their quality was examined at intervals of 6 months and once a month using microbial, chemical, and sensory tests, and their shelf life was determined.
Results and Discussion: The efficiency of soup production showed a significant difference between Talang Queenfish, Butterfish, and European Chub treatments (30, 13, and 20%; P<0.05). Lipid and moisture (16.56 and 21.89%) in European Chub soup were significantly different compared to other treatments (P<0.05). PV, TBARS, TVB-N, and pH (2.05-2.98 meq/kg oil, 0.51-0.69 mg/kg, 20.27-22.98 mg/100g, and 6.78-6.99) did not present significant differences between treatments (P>0.05). The total bacterial counts (2.49-1.54 logCFU/g) were not significantly different between treatments (P>0.05). The experimental treatments did not show fungi, coliform, and Escherichia coli. Overall acceptance (4.26) and taste (4.25) were evaluated higher in Talang Queenfish soup compared to other treatments.
Conclusion: According to the priority of the sensory characteristics compared to other indicators, and also based on the microbial and chemical quality in the treatments, which were not significantly different, and the higher efficiency of soup production from Talang Queenfish, the preparation of soup from this fish is suggested to the food industry.

Introduction: At present, due to the decrease in wild catch and the increase in demand, finding an alternative protein source for fish meal in aqua-feed has become one of the challenges of the aquaculture industry. One of the alternative sources is insects that are considered part of the natural food of aquatic animals, especially in the larval stage, and are rich in amino acids, fats, vitamins, and minerals. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of black soldier fly larvae meal (BSFLM) in the diet of Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei post-larvae on growth performance and digestive enzyme activity.
Materials and methods: Four experimental diets were prepared in triplicate with replacement levels of 0 (D1), 25 (D2), 50 (D3), and 100% (D4) of fish meal with BSFLM as isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets. The effect of the prepared diets on growth performance and digestive enzyme activity in the Pacific white shrimp post larvae (weight: 4 mg) was evaluated for 70 days.
Results and discussion: The obtained findings showed that using BSFLM up to 50% (D3) significantly increased the final BW, WG, SGR, PER, and LER, while those indices significantly decreased in shrimp fed with D4 (P<0.05). The FCR revealed a significant decrease of up to 50% BSFLM but significantly increased in shrimp fed with D4 (P<0.05). The digestive enzyme activity from the hepatopancreas and intestine indicated that trypsin and lipase had a significant increase in the shrimp fed with diets up to 50% BSFLM (P<0.05), while amylase showed no significant difference. The digestive enzymes significantly decreased in the shrimp fed with D4 (P<0.05).
Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, fish meal replacement with BSFLM up to 50% had a significant effect on shrimp growth performance and digestive enzyme activity.

Introduction: The initial feeding of larvae is a critical stage in fish development that significantly influences the enhancement of quality, reduction of skeletal abnormalities, resilience to stressful environments, and future survival rates of fish. The transition stage facilitates external feed adaptation in larvae, providing both live and formulated feeds. This period involves gradually reducing the consumption of live feed while increasing the amount of formulated feed. In this study, we aim to investigate the effects of various live feeds (such as Artemia and chironomid larvae) and dry feeds on the Siberian sturgeon, Acipenser baerii growth performance, survival rate, and digestive enzyme activity.
Materials and methods: A 34-day study was conducted to investigate the effects of mixed-formulated diets and various live feeds on growth, survival rate, and digestive enzyme activity in the larvae of Siberian sturgeon. The larvae were fed Artemia nauplii during the 8 to 20 days following larval hatching. A total of 1,500 larvae, each with an initial weight of 0.24 ± 0.00 g, were randomly distributed into 15 plastic containers, each with a capacity of 50 liters, across three replicates (n = 100). Larvae were fed using five different feeding strategies: frozen chironomid larvae (CH), frozen Artemia biomass (Ar), a combination of Artemia biomass and chironomid (M), a mixture of Artemia, chironomid and dry feed (MF), and dry feed alone (FD). All treatments replaced 10% of the consumed live feed with dry feed every three days. The larvae were fed ad libitum.
Results and Discussion: The final weight and biomass of larvae in CH were significantly higher than in M and MF. The fish in CH and then FD had the highest final weight, yield, and production value. Furthermore, CH and FD exhibited the most apparent increase in the amounts of digestive enzymes, including pepsin, trypsin, and amylase (P<0.05).
Conclusion: According to the results, Siberian sturgeon larvae experienced rapid physiological and morphological changes during the early stages of their life cycle. Dry feed with high digestibility can be used to initiate external feeding. Additionally, frozen chironomid larvae are recommended as a feed supplement during this crucial weaning stage due to their high digestibility, improved survival rate, and reduced production costs.

Introduction: Polychaeta, or bristle worms, are a class of marine Annelid worms with segmented bodies. Each segment has paired fleshy appendages called parapodia, equipped with bristles known as chaetae made of chitin. Over 10,000 species are described, and polychaetes play vital ecological roles as predators and prey in their ecosystems. Polychaeta, Hediste diversicolor is one of the important live foods in fish and crustacean nutrition such as sturgeon and shrimp. This study aimed to investigate the effect of different levels of selenium nanoparticles (Se-NPs) and iron nanoparticles (Fe-NPs) on the growth and survival of H. diversicolor.
Materials and methods: 48000 Hediste worms (with an average wet weight of 37 mg) were distributed in 12 tanks (50-L volume) as a completely randomized design with four treatments and three replications (4000 worms per m2). Treatments included control (without adding nanoparticles), T1 = 50 mg/kg Fe-NPs + 0.5 mg/kg Se-NPs, T2 = 100 mg/kg Fe-NPs + 1 mg/kg Se-NPs and T3 = Fe-NPs 200 mg/kg + 2 mg/kg Se-NPs. Before starting the experiment, Hediste worms were adapted to the tank conditions for one week, and then they were fed diets containing selenium and iron nanoparticles for 12 weeks.
Results and discussion: The results indicated that increasing the amounts of selenium nanoparticles (Se-NPs) and iron nanoparticles (Fe-NPs) in the diet significantly enhanced the biomass and survival rate of Hediste worms. Specifically, as the concentrations of selenium and iron in the treatments increased, the length of L3 (the combined length of the first three segments: prostomium, peristomium, and first chaetiger) decreased significantly. T2 and T3 exhibited shorter L3 lengths compared to the control group. The highest survival rates were observed in T2 (65.5%) and T3 (66.6%), while the greatest biomass was recorded in T3 (1514.8 g/m²). Notably, Hediste worms in the control group consumed significantly more food and displayed the highest food conversion ratio (FCR). In contrast, the lowest FCR values of 0.57 and 0.54 were recorded in T2 and T3, respectively, indicating a positive effect of these nanoparticles on improving FCR.
Conclusion: The combined application of Se-NPs at a concentration of 2 mg/kg with 200 mg/kg Fe-NPs demonstrated a superior effect on the growth and survival rate of Hediste diversicolor compared to both the control diet and other treatments.
Conflicts of interest: Authors have no conflict of interest to declare for the publication of the present work.
Acknowledgments: This research was conducted as a study opportunity for members of the faculty of the Agricultural Research, Education, and Extension Organization in Society and Industry.
Introduction: Due to the rapid growth of the human population and increasing standard of living, there is a rising demand for seafood. Aquaculture relies heavily on the consistent supply of fishmeal (FM) and fish oil, major components in commercial fish feeds. Due to the current scarcity of FM, alternative protein sources that provide similar nutritional benefits to FM and fish oil have been explored extensively. Insect meals will be a suitable alternative as the nutritional components, which are more similar to FM. In this study, the effects of replacing different levels of superworm (Zophobas morio) offal meal and extracted oil instead of fish meal and oil were investigated on growth performance, feed conversion ratio, body composition, and hepato-visceral indices in juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss).
Material and methods: Fish (n = 420, initial average weight of 12 ± 0.2 g) were randomly distributed to 21 polyethylene circular tanks with a capacity of 250 L for 56 days. Seven isonitrogenous (41.5%) and isolipidic (16%) diets were formulated where the FM and fish oil of the control diet was replaced by Z. morio offal meal at 25, 50, and 75% instead of FM, and Z. morio oil was replaced at 25, 50 and 100% by fish oil. At the end of the trial, growth performance, feeding parameters, body composition, and hepato-visceral indices were calculated in different treatments. For data analysis, One-Way ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range comparison tests were performed at the significant level of P<0.05.
Results and discussion: According to the results, final weight, specific growth rate, and feed conversion ratio of fish in the meal and oil replacement treatments showed no significant differences compared to the control group (P>0.05). Body protein contents did not significantly differ between the groups fed with offal meal and superworm oil compared to the control group (P>0.05). Body lipid significantly increased by elevating meal replacement levels compared to the control group (P>0.05), however, no differences were observed by oil replacement levels compared to the control group (P>0.05). Liver index in fish fed at levels higher than 25% meal replacement significantly increased (P<0.05), but no differences were observed in oil replacements compared to the control (P>0.05). The visceral index showed no differences in meal replacement treatments (P<0.05), however, its lowest value was observed in 25 and 50% oil replacements.
Conclusion: Based on the results, replacing 25% of offal meal and up to 50% of superworm oil in the trout diet seems reasonable.

Abstract:
Introduction: Given that the available potential of water and land resources for fish farming and rearing is not unlimited, maximizing resource use efficiency is crucial to achieve higher production per unit area in aquaculture. Nutritional strategies and improving feed composition for important commercial fish species have received considerable attention in research on sustainable aquaculture. These studies focus primarily on increasing the efficiency of nutrient components such as proteins and fats and improving their digestibility. Proper nutrition is recognized as a crucial factor for fish growth and health. It is essential to ensure that an appropriate diet not only meets the physiological needs of the fish but also contributes to their overall well-being. Various studies conducted on human samples suggest that dates have numerous beneficial effects and play an important role in boosting various immune levels, including antioxidant properties, immune stimulation, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer effects. However, despite the positive effects of dates, there is little research on their effects in aquaculture as an immune and growth stimulant in fish.
Materials and methods: A total of 240 red tilapia with an initial average weight of 1.15 ± 0.04 g and initial average length of 3.37 ± 0.10 cm were randomly allocated to 12 aquaria with four treatments, each with three replicates. The fish were subjected to different feeding regimens over 8 weeks, including the control group: feeding with a diet without date extract; treatment 1: feeding with 100 mL date extract per kg feed; treatment 2: feeding with 200 mL date extract per kg feed; and treatment 3: feeding with 300 mL date extract per kg feed. After the experiment, the final weight of the fish was measured, followed by the collection of 15 fish from each treatment for biochemical analysis of body composition. In addition, mucus and serum samples were collected from the nine fish in each treatment to evaluate mucosal immune parameters, serum biochemical markers, and antioxidant defense indices. The data obtained were analyzed using a One-way analysis of variance followed by a Duncan post hoc test with a 95% confidence level. Before analysis, normality of data and homogeneity of variances were checked using SPSS version 26.
Results and Discussion: The findings suggest that dietary supplementation with 200 mL date extract significantly improves the growth performance of red tilapia. Biochemical analyses indicated that this treatment group exhibited higher total protein levels and lower fat content than the control group (P<0.05). Furthermore, glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels were significantly reduced in the group receiving date extract. Notably, protein and albumin levels also increased substantially in this group (P<0.05). Immunological assessments demonstrated significant increases in total protein, immunoglobulin levels, and lysozyme activity in the mucus of red tilapia fed with date extract (P<0.05). Antioxidant defense indices revealed heightened activities of catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase, along with reduced malondialdehyde levels in the treatment groups compared to the control (P<0.05). Overall, the enhancements observed in growth and nutritional indices are attributed to the high nutritional value of dates, which are abundant in fiber, vitamins, enzymes, and essential minerals. This improved nutritional status arises from dietary supplementation with date extract.
Conclusion: Since Iran is among the world's largest producers of dates, utilizing this cost-effective immune stimulant derived from waste dates could be recommended as a viable strategy for the aquaculture industry. The findings of this study suggest that incorporating 200 mL date extract into the diet of red tilapia positively influences immune indices and mucosal immune parameters.
</OtherAbstract>
